Band of Brothers

School boy error this week, I actually played a game on Monday but totally forgot to take any pictures once the dice started rolling.

These guys got to go out and play, but obviously with some scenery and an opposing force.

The figures are 1/48th scale 101st Airborne figures (that's the page title explained) for the game 1:48 Tactic.

This was the first time I've actually played the game and I have to say I quite enjoyed it (so much so that when I got home and ordered several more figures for each faction) and it was reasonably quick with each game lasting about an hour (six figures per side). The mechanics are simple enough but with sufficient depth to make it interesting, however the game is very deadly as the first game taught me. Most weapons can shoot across the table without penalty and if you are stupid enough to be caught in the open without enough actions to dive for cover then you are in trouble (that'll be me then). I think my opponent and I quickly realised the deadliness of the system and so in game two more scenery was added to the table and we weren't so eager to spend actions on our turn.

Yesterday I was able to spend a whole day in the bunker and managed to finish my third and final (for now) C18th Regiment of Foote (okay the last 'e' in foot is probably a 17th century thing), and here they are:

The next thing to do is base them and give them flags.

Basing has proved a small challenge as the bases that came with the figures are a little too spacious and the bases I had ordered separately on a friends suggestion (15mm frontage per figure) turned out to be a little to snug. I'm now waiting for a delivery of 35mm bases (for two figures abreast) to see whether they work better.

I have an idea what I want to do for flags but this will depend on my ability to use paint/photo software on my PC to create, so set your expectations low.

Whilst the paint on the infantry was drying and to take the occasional break I did these (finished today).

I'm happy with the way these turned out, Iron Man is probably my least favourite due to the gold paint not being the friendliest to use and the depth of detail on the figure i.e. the recesses/contours, are not as defined as other figures I've painted.

Crossbones (the one on the right) is actually painted in a number of different shades of black but that does not seem so evident in the picture.

Bunker week finished with me putting a base colour on the second set of sci-fi scenery, assembling and undercoating eight 1:48 figures and building an C18th cannon and general - you won't see pictures of these until I finish them.

No Bunker tomorrow as I'm cooking for the neighbours and prepping for a game on Saturday (hopefully pictures of this in the next blog).

At last! I can leave a comment........errrrr. Nice.

Sorry about the bad advice re basing. If it's any consolation, I'm going to have the same problem.

I'm in awe at your ability to paint so many lovely toys in such a short period of time.

I often do a draft flag using Windows Paint......it's so easy to nick images from the tinterweb and resize them. Publisher's good for that as well.
