As the none to subtle title suggests I have had a week of primarily Marvel related hobby tasks.
Firstly I started to paint the figures my children had given to me for my birthday, and so as not to show any favourtism I elected to paint a figure from each of the boxes they gave me.
As always my photography skills probably don't do them justice, and the use of the flash certainly has killed some detail on the Carnage figure.
The trickiest one to paint was Carnage as not only were there quite a few black 'veins' to paint with my shaky hand but as the figure is held off of the ground by tendrils the figure 'wobbles' as you paint it.
Once I finished these I decided to do another figure from the original starter box that had been ignored, so here's Captain Marvel.
Having looked at the uploaded picture I may revisit her to address the little white bits - to be fair though, on the table she looks fine.
With these done I turned my attention to some of the scenery that came in the starter box.
The flash has not done the newspaper stand justice, it looks better than that in the flesh so to speak. My big error here was to give the cars a coloured wash once I finished them, sure it gives some dark recesses to pull out the detail, but gives a very smeary finish to the body.
And as if I didn't have much else to do, I decided to paint the range tools that came in the starter.
All of my effort turned out not to be a bad thing as a friend, Mr. Bartley (yes I have more than one friend) and his partner visited the weekend, and whilst the girls luxuriated in the hot tub and put the world to right he gave me my first couple of games of Marvel Crisis Protocol.
I must say I rather enjoyed the game despite being unable to get any decent dice rolls when needed. It certainly is very thematic, with Captain American able to throw his shield and then potentially hitting another target on the rebound, Thor calling down lightning on himself to scorch all the opponents surrounding him amongst other things.
There are elements of the game that will take a little time to fully appreciate specifically the team cards and how they can enhance your team on a given turn and remembering all of the abilities characters have.
The terrain and mat were thrown together quite quickly, hopefully by the time I next get to play I'll have a slightly better looking board.
Aside from the above I painted some cactus, these are from Great Escape Games, although they may not be the manufacturer. These were easily painted with contrasts as they have a fair bit of texture.
I have also assembled my next regiment of 18th Century infantry, these will appear on the blog once they have some paint on them.
Until next time!!
Rather awesome painting there, mate.
