So this week rather than continue and complete stuff I've already started I decided to something new (will I ever learn?).
Last week I failed an impulse saving roll and purchased "Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps" by Gale Force Nine, in fact it was a critical fail as I also brought a couple of expansions for the game. I'll put up a review or my thoughts on the game when I get round to playing it, which won't be until the figures included are painted and possibly until I find someone willing to give it a go (Mrs. P won't entertain games with any type of aliens in them - apparently they're pointless).
I spent a fair amount of time assembling the figures. The colonial marines etc. where pretty straight forward, the Aliens took a little more work (more parts per model) and their tails were a particular problem. I must admit I was quite surprised that Gale Force decided to make the figures multi-part as the average board gamer may not have the modelling skills or equipment needed to put these together.
The Alien figure are I think superior to the 'good guys', the detail is more crisp and using 'lazy' painting techniques I've managed to get them painted already (cue dodgy photos..).
These were spayed matt black then dry brushed using 'Nurgling Green' from the Games Workshop paint range, the base was then dry brushed with 'Necron Compound' from the same range.
The colonial marines are okay figures but the detail is not a crisp as you would expect from a wargames figure in my view (okay, it does depend on the manufacturer). I've actually painted these in the traditional way, i.e. base coats, shading and ultimately highlights, rather than my current preferred method of using GW Contrast Paints. Below is a crude shot of where they are today, I'll get better pictures once they are finished.
And finally between coats and when needing to step away from the figure painting bench I finished another Japanese building, this time a Dojo. Looks okay if you don't get too close, colours may be a bit to bright - haven't decided yet.
