Weekend Warrior

The weekend before last I had a jolly jaunt to Grays to play a couple of games with Mr. Burt in his splendid gaming shed.

We first played a 15mm World War 2 Western Europe battle using the Battlegroup set of rules.

Iain set up a rather nice looking table, as he generally does.

Here my reconnaissance Cromwell successfully spots a sheep - but who's side is it on?

I failed to take many more pictures, in fact this is all I could find......

Rules seemed to work well once we had played through a couple of turns, the only thing potentially delaying us was the need to look up stats - we'll prepare some unit data cards before we play again. Iain's artillery was a bane to me because whenever they missed their target point they deviated into one of my units - generally one not well armoured.

Day two saw us playing an ACW 'Shiny' game, this time joint by Tim and Dave. I admit I was a little skeptical when Iain said this is what we were to play, having images of toy soldier like figures on a plain green table (shudder) - however I was totally wrong, the figures looked good as did the table.

For this game I remembered to take plenty (well, several) of pictures.

That's Tim in the picture, looking rather happy, must have just won a fight.

Despite loosing it was a good enjoyable game played with rather splendid chaps!

On my return to the bunker, after recovering from the weekend, I braved the freezing temperatures and did some work in the Bunker, managing to complete my first unit of Hoplites. As these will be for a SAGA game I will be working these figures in batches of 8 which equates to 1 point of warriors under that system.

I'll take no credit for the shield designs these are transfers, a couple by Warlord included in the figure box, the more elaborate ones by Big Man Studios.

I now need to settle on a basing theme so I can finish them off.

Next unit has made it to the painting table, so expect to see some more soon!!

Those Hoplites look the mutt's, Mr P.

I take it you've used contrast (or similar) paints on the clothing? It's really worked well. You'll have to show me how to use the stuff properly - whenever I've tried it, the result is horrible.

But for goodness sake, slow down. You're putting my glacial painting speed to shame.

Replying to

Thank you Mr. B

80% contrast.

Bronze was an Army Painter acrylic which I washed with a brownish shade/ink.

White linen various from figure to figure, some base white with shading others contrast.

I may paint fast but your glacial painting produces better quality figures.
